INVITATION FROM THE GENERAL CO-CHAIRS

We would like to invite you to attend the ETFA 2010 that will take place in a very interesting place, the city of Bilbao. Most of the Conference will take place in the Faculty of Engineering of the University of The Basque Country.

Nearly 400 papers have been submitted. The PC Chairs jointly with the Track Co-Chairs and their International Program Committees have worked hard and efficiently and, after a rigorous procedure, 251 papers have been accepted, 119 as regular, 45 as Special Session and 87 as Work In Progress and Industry Practice papers.

Five Keynotes Lectures have been programmed for the three days of the Conference. Two of them to be held at the Guggenheim Museum on Monday 13th of September on subjects related to Art and Engineering and three more technical on topics covering not only emerging fields but also new developments in research areas. All of them will be given by outstanding speakers.

The accepted papers are scheduled in 42 sessions, corresponding to Regular, Special and WiP sessions of seven Tracks. The reaction to the Call for Workshops has also been very positive. The selected Workshops will be held on Thursday, September 16, after the Conference.

The Conference includes parallel activities, such as the Green Industry Day, a full-day event where important speakers belonging to one of the most advanced Research Centre in the Basque Country, as well as from Industry and University will present the latest advances on green energies (solar, wind and ocean energies) and on the electric car. ETFA 2010 attendees are invited to this event at no extra cost. Other interesting event to be held during the Conference is the 4DIAC Users Meeting. Both events will also take place on September 16th.

On September 14th an Official Meeting of the IEC SC 65B WG15 (IEC-61499 Maintenance Team) will be held.

We expect that the conference will bring together an international community of experts to discuss the state-of-the-art, new research results, perspectives for future developments, and innovative applications relevant to automation, control, real-time systems and related areas.

Bilbao is a friendly city open to all cultures with a rich past, a dynamic present, and an exciting future. Situated in Northern Spain, Bilbao offers a typical oceanic/maritime climate, with temperate weather year-round and no major temperature fluctuations or extremes. September climate is usually September climate is usually ideal for sunbathing on nearby sandy beaches.

All those attending the ETFA 2010 will have the opportunity to participate in a high-level scientific and technical congress, to share some days with outstanding specialists in the field from all over the world, not only in the technical sessions but also during the conference banquet and receptions, and will also understand why Bilbao is a city worthy to visit.

We look forward to seeing you at the ETFA 2010 and encourage you to consider spending extra days to enjoy Bilbao.
